A weekend getaway at Coonoor

Having been to Ooty a couple of times, we decided to check out Coonoor this time. And, to our surprise we found Coonoor to be much more relaxing than Ooty. We stayed at Wallwood Garden, a Neemrana Hotels property which is a heritage hotel. The place is a great place to relax and unwind amidst the garden and tea gardens around and has an old world charm to it. The place is a 100 year old Scottish mansion built in the pre independence area. There is no in-house restaurant but food can be arranged. We had a nice hot coffee and sandwiches at the nearby Cafe Coffee Day instead !! We stayed at Eucalyptus which has a glass facade on one side albeit without a TV !! The best place to perhaps visit the place is during July-Sep, when the rates are less ;). The hotel is very close to Sims Park which is a nice place to take an evening stroll. You may also visit the nearby Ralia Dam which gives a breathtaking valley view amidst tea gardens all around. Very few people even know about the place. Avoid the Ooty lake. Go to the Pykara Lake. Its serene and less crowded like Coonoor.
